Earlier this year the long awaited day of legitimate online poker being played returned to America and the state of Nevada when Ultimate Poker open its doors on Tuesday 30th April. Five months has now passed since then and this coming Thursday will see the launch of the second real money legitimate online poker site in the state, this time with the World Series of Poker (WSOP) being the company in question.

The WSOP had hoped to have their online poker site up and running earlier this year in time for the annual WSOP championships, but a few problems with the licences caused the delay until now. Ty Stewart is the Executive Director at the WSOP and he had this to say about the launch of the new site. He said, “The online launch marks an important movement in the World Series of Poker. We know that there are more Chris Moneymakers out there, and WSOP.com is going to find them.”

All the usual No-Limit and Fixed-Limit Texas Hold’em games will be available, as will Omaha and Stud games, as well as sit and go’s, cash games and multi player tournaments. It is also hoped that the new site will offer a host of different satellites for events across the poker globe too.

Another new addition will be that of the WSOP Online Championships, a series of nine different tournaments with $500,000 worth of added prize money. Geoff Stewart is General Manager and Senior Vice President at Caesars and he had this to say about the new initiative. He said, “The Online Championships are a series of tournaments we created with two goals: To provide value to our players and to integrate what we’ve already done with the World Series of Poker.”

The leading nine online players from the WSOP Online Championships, known as the “Online Nine” will get to play at the Rio All Suite Hotel & Casino at the same time as the “November Nine” on 4-5 November when the final table of this years Main Event is played out.
