New Jersey now the 3rd state to legalize online gambling in the US
Governor Chris Christie has finally authorized a law that will see New Jersey get to be the 3rd state in America after Nevada and Delaware to legalize online gaming.
The Republican Governor vetoed a suggested bill conditionally last February but said that he’d sign it if several adjustments were carried out. The revised law, which included a provision for a 10 year trial time period for Internet gambling and a an raise of 5 percent on the tax on winnings to 15%, was easily approved in the state Senate by 35-1 and in the Assembly by 68-5 with only one abstention.
Christie’s sign now allows New Jersey to providea variety of online slots and casino games along with online poker.
In a statement, Christie said ‘This was a critical decision, and one that I did not make lightly,’. ‘But with the proper regulatory framework and safeguards that I insisted on including in the bill, I am confident that we are offering a responsible yet exciting option that will make Atlantic City more competitive while also bringing financial benefits to New Jersey as a whole.’
