Michigan Officially Gets Its Second Online Poker Room

The second Michigan online poker room is now live, after BetMGM entered the market under the partypoker US network.

This comes almost two months after PokerStars became the first company to launch online poker in the newly legalized market.

“The launch of BetMGM Poker in Michigan fully rounds out our premier gaming portfolio in the state,” said BetMGM CEO Adam Greenblatt in a press release. “BetMGM’s sports betting and casino offerings have been met with incredible early success in Michigan and we’re thrilled to provide players with another exciting gaming option.”

Ray Stefanelli, Director of Poker, BetMGM added: “The demand for online poker in Michigan was made clear by players across the state. BetMGM Poker is proud to offer them a seat at our tables and we’re confident that BetMGM Michigan customers will enjoy an engaging, reliable, and fun poker experience.”

In January, BetMGM launched online sports betting and casino games after the state regulators finalized rules and allowed companies to launch online gambling platforms. In Michigan, online providers need to have a land-based partner, which BetMGM has with the MGM Grand Detroit property.

For now, only players physically located in Michigan can play. There are no interstate gaming compacts in place yet with the Michigan market yet, but given that Gov. Gretchen Whitmer signed legislation in early January that would allow the practice to take place, and after the industry got a favorable ruling on the Wire act, one will likely form in the near future.

BetMGM also launched next-gen online poker app for online poker in Michigan. It has also made improvements to its mobile poker offer in New Jersey: Android users can now download BetMGM Casino, Poker and Sports app directly from official Google Play store.

This is thanks to a recent policy change in the store permitting licensed, regulated gambling apps in select states in the United States.
