Fortune Poker To Close It Doors For Good – Has Online Poker Had Its Day?
When Chris Moneymaker won the World Series of Poker Main Event in 2003 the game of poker saw a massive boom, especially online poker, as more and more people took to the tables to try and be the next Chris Moneymaker. In April 2011 the game of online poker was hit by ‘Black Friday’, an event that hit literally hundreds and thousands of people all across America. Many online poker sites were hit hard and whilst some are slowly recovering one will be closing its doors for good in a few days time.
Fortune Poker will be closing down for good on Sunday 31st March after nine years of being in business. It appears as though Fortune Poker have been hit hard by recent events, though no real reason has been revealed as to why they are closing. A statement on their website reads, “After 9 years, we have been very grateful to service you and provide you with the most personal and VIP oriented poker room online. With many changes in the online gaming industry, it has been a struggle to continue to support our players and affiliates to the fullest. Whilst we have grown very fond of our Players, Partners and Affiliates we regret to inform you that Fortune Poker has made the unfavorable decision to close its gaming/poker operations.”
There was also another little message added at the bottom which read, “As always the team at Fortune Poker will work to ensure that you are taken care of to the fullest.”
There was also a comprehensive list of information on how players, partners and affiliates would be paid their outstanding monies. Players will be able to access their cash until Tuesday 2nd April, with rakebacks and bonuses being paid to players accounts on Monday 1st April.
A very sad day indeed for everyone connected with Fortune Poker, but it just goes to show how quickly things can turn. Have Fortune Poker been unlucky, or are they the first of many online poker rooms that have simply had their day? Only time will tell on that one, but it is a very sad day for everyone connected with the game of poker, especially those who have connections with Fortune Poker.
