Barny Boatman Wins Lifetime Achievement Award At Annual GPI Awards
The 2014 Global Poker Index (GPI) European Poker Awards took place earlier this week at the Salle des Ambassadeurs in the Casino Barrière de Deauville, and today here at Poker Net we are able to reveal the full list of winners to you our readers.
European Player of the Year went to Ole Schemion from Germany, while Britain’s Barny Boatman was awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award following his success at the World Series of Poker (WSOP) in 2013, when after a number of near misses over the years he finally claimed his first WSOP Bracelet.
Boatman took to Twitter immediately after the award and appeared to be in complete shock as he wrote, “Well bugger me if I didn’t just walk away with poker’s coveted Cul d’or.” He was also surprised that Matt Ashton walked away empty handed as he said, “A great night at the GPI awards, but I can’t believe Matt Ashton didn’t win anything. In fact I can’t believe he didn’t win everything.”
