The Nevada Gaming Commission Receives Online Poker Applications

Due to the recent release of the good news for the gambling industry from the United States Department of Justice regarding the Wire Act of 1961 stating that online gambling was not part of it anymore and the Act only pertained to sports gambling, many online gaming companies already applied for a license.

The Nevada Gaming Commission has received applications from six companies and one of them is the 888 Poker. 888 Poker defines themselves as “the largest and most trusted online casino and online poker on the web.”

But according to sources the Nevada Gaming Commission probably wouldn’t approve licenses until the first of February. And possibly, all the online poker companies that applied this year would have established online businesses by the end of this year.

This could be a big opportunity for 888 because they were one of the first few companies who submitted their interest of legally setting up an online poker business. They will also be the first ones to greet the huge market waiting in the United States alone.

888 was already negotiating with another gambling company, Caesar’s Entertainment Corporation based in the UK. The poker site said that the convergence wouldn’t be until October or November this year. However, 888 stated that they didn’t really need Caesar’s as an ally to have an established poker site.

Caesar’s could be in partnership with 888 even though it was a foreign company because the federal law stated that an overseas-based company could apply for a license provided that it meets all the qualifications listed by the federal law.

This license will allow the companies to operate only within the borders of Nevada, but with the number of tourists visiting the state every day, this wouldn’t be even a problem for it would be like reaching the significant states in the online poker market. Not only that, some states were even looking at inter-state games, although that topic wasn’t talked about too much and may be considered once the online poker industry has been all set up. Other states were considering building their own commission much like the Nevada Gaming Commission.

States were eager to have the online poker business running as this could raise a lot of new revenue by taxing online poker. States were already starting to adopt new laws giving a good future to the online poker industry.

As for 888, holding a gaming license in Nevada would be an enough head start over the other companies, plus, building new regulations that would be accepted by gaming commissions and other concerned parties would give them the opportunity to reach players in other states. If that would be the case, 888 could reach the entire $5 billion U.S. market.
